Dream job alert: Nutella to hire 60 taste testers in Italy

If you love Nutella, this may just be your job of your dreams.

Last week, The Local Italy reported the Ferrero company, which makes the popular chocolate hazelnut spread, plans to hire 60 new taste testers in Italy.

Officially called “sensory judges,” each part-time judge will be required to taste Nutella products at their headquarters in the town of Alba.

And if the eating Nutella part wasn’t enough, it’s also an educational experience. Each judge will learn how to taste cocoa, hazelnut grains and other semi-finished chocolate products, the job listing notes. Tasters will learn how to use their sense of smell and taste to express exactly what they’re eating.

And while the job description is enough of a selling point (seriously, who doesn’t want to eat Nutella all day?), the company added that sensory judges don’t need any prior experience. In fact, the company is looking to hire non-professionals.

“The announcement makes it clear that no qualifications or experience is required for the aspiring judges. In fact, they’re looking for regular consumers, so they say it’s even better if candidates aren’t highly educated in nutrition or the science of taste,” The Local reports.

The role starts on September 30, USA Today reports, and 60 tasters will join a three-month training program for two hours a day. At the end, Ferrero will choose 40 recruits for two tasting panels. And because this job is part-time — you probably shouldn’t be tasting that much Nutella during the week — the company will also allow finalists to look for jobs on the side.

The chocolate hazelnut spread made headlines last fall after quietly changing its recipe in Canada and Europe, leaving some fans outraged.

The new recipe includes 8.7 per cent powdered skim milk (compared to the previous 7.5 per cent) and the colour is now a lighter chocolate brown.

“As the colour of the new Nutella is lighter, we are working on the assumption that skimmed milk powder was added at the expense of cacao,” a statement said.
