Ashley’s Angels 8th Annual Golf Tournament

Ashley was a very healthy two-year-old when she suddenly became jaundiced (yellow).
She was brought to SickKids and, after a number of tests, Ashley was diagnosed with
Pediatric Acute Liver Failure, a rare and frequently fatal diagnosis in children. Ashley’s
condition deteriorated rapidly and she was prioritized on the National Transplant List
to receive a new liver. In Canada, wait times for an available deceased organ can be
very lengthy, however with Ashley’s failing health she did not have time to wait.
Fortunately, liver transplantation with a living donor organ is an option in Toronto.
Ashley’s Aunt Cheryl was determined to a candidate to donate a portion of her liver
for Ashley to undergo a life-saving liver transplant – before it was too late. Because of
this precious gift of life, Ashley is now thriving eleven-year-old who amazes everyone
she meets. Ashley’s Angels was established in 2009 following Ashley’s liver transplant
at SickKids Hospital.

Our mission is two-fold:
1. Raise funds in support of transplant research, education and innovation targeted at enhancing both
the quantity and quality of live years restored by transplantation; and
2. Raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.

Funds from the golf tournament will go towards:

• Ideal Outcomes Research Program at The Hospital for Sick Children is reviewing 877 pediatric liver transplant
recipients in a North American research database to determine if an ideal outcome at 3 years after transplant could be
predicted from available patient characteristics, biochemical markers, and clinical events diagnosed at 1 year. This
research project is also developing patient profiles to help clinical teams in North America identify and accurately
intervene with earliest targeted strategies
• HSOI – High School Outreach Initiative – this is a University of Toronto Transplant Institute (TTI) initiative to
increase awareness about the life-saving contributions of organ donation in the province of Ontario to students in the
Public and Catholic District School Boards.

On Monday, July 18th, 2018 we invite you to join us for the 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support the
Transplant Centre at SickKids Hospital. Guests will include Barrie’s business leaders and young professionals coming
together to raise awareness for organa and tissue donation and funds for the transplant research, education and
innovation. The day will feature VIP treatment with an exclusive golfing experience at The Club Bond Head. This is
one of the most sought after golf tournaments in Barrie.
